Healthy Cooking : My Gadgets List
0Even the healthier oils, such as olive and canola, contain more than 100 calories per tablespoon (15 mL)—so if you’re a free-pourer when
cooking, you may be getting more calories than you realize.
Steamer
Though I love to eat raw salads which are tasty as well as healthy, but all the food can not be consumed in raw form so I try to steam my
vegetables rather than boiling them ( many important nutrients are leached into water that way). So I have steamer for microwave as well as stovetop.
Food Scale
Food scales take the guesswork out of calorie counting because you can precisely measure individual ingredients or entire meals, making portion control a breeze! I have a normal food scale but a digital one is on the wishlist.
Food Processor
The food processor cuts food preperation time in half, so you can have dinner on the table sooner and be less likely to snack.Salads, soups, juices and chutnies all prepared within minutes.
Practice perfect portion control
Measuring cups are a pretty way of ensuring better portion control. While cooking help me to measure out liquid ingredients and makes portion control easier when serving and eating food.
Here are some ideas for measuring your servings:
• Use the one-cup (250 mL) bowl for plain low-fat yogurt and berries.
• Use the 1/2-cup (125 mL) bowl to get one serving of brown rice.
• Use the 1/3-cup (75 mL) bowl to treat yourself to ice cream or frozen yogurt.
• Use the 1/4-cup (60 mL) bowl to get your daily serving of nuts
If you are into baking then these are the must haves in your kitchen as correct measured ingredients make the baking a whole lot easier and results are great.
Slow Cooker Crockpot
One of my favorite small appliances in the kitchen is my slow cooker Its convenient , and prepares foolproof meals with very little effort
and it is convenient in the sense that if you put your food in the morning you can come back to a hot and delicious home cooked meal.
A slow coooker crock pot is perfect for winter meals and to put food on to cook and go do something else. Just cook the masala once a week.and when ever you require fresh meal just add the meat or veggie and get set and go.
Though not readily available in India, But try it you may find one. I got mine as a gift from a friend returning from US.
Hand Blender
Most handy tool as far as I am concerned. Use it to puree a smoothie or soup or super delicious fruit lassi this one is a time saver, and super convenient to use as it blend sauces and soup right in the pan.Use an immersion blender to quickly blend your homemade salad dressings.
Mine is old one which I bought about 8 years back thinking of buying a new fancy designed one ,but this one always working not a single time #fail so dont want to let it go.
Microplane zester/grater
A handheld microplane zester is very handy tool for upping your flavor factor. Grated nutmeg, finely shredded parmesan, and citrus rind all in matter of minute or so.
Olive Oil Sprayer
Instead of buying canned olive oil spray I always use a spray bottle and fill it with olive oil that way I can disperse a small amount oil
instead of soaking the food in oil. A thin layer of oil on the food enables it to brown and crisp as it cooks.
Nonstick Frying Pans and Skillets
If you want to cook low fat food then this is one of the must haves , You can cook your food in lot ess oil and without the fear of food
sticking on the bottom.
Silicone Basting Brushes
When you are cooking low fat way, this helps you to spread the oil lightly with canola or olive oil That’s They also help coat meat and
fish. Because the brush part is made from heat resistant silicone, you won’t find any wayward bristles in your dish.
This list is expanding and many new gadgets are being included so updating it very soon.
