Spice & Herb Dinner Rolls
10
Aroma of fresh bread baking in my oven is one of the fulfilling experiences as far as baking goes. Nothing tastes as good as soft, warm, and straight out of oven bread.
I am a carb lover as far as dietary preferences go, not that I am ignoring other food groups; but certainly not from the group who believe carbs are bad.
Yes, I do mind my portions; I consume healthy carbs but aren’t we are advised to balance all nutrients as far as healthy eating goes, so how can avoiding carbs can be part of healthy eating ? unless you are avoiding them for some valid reason like allergies etc.
An ideal dinner roll for me should be light, fluffy and soft, yet strong enough to hold its structure, while I dunk it in some soup or gravy and not too sweet. In fact I like my breads more towards savoury side rather than sweet ones. If I have to bake something sweet then I would rather have my cake (and eat it too)
These savoury and spicy chilli flakes and thyme dinner rolls are good to enjoy with a big bowl of comforting homemade soup, or as a bun to make burger or a sandwich. Chilli flakes in the roll makes it spicy and the hotness of chilli complements the thyme perfectly. If you like to more spicy or less spicy you can adjust the amount of red chilli as per your taste.
If you are little adventurous as my teen is you can have it with a big dollop of mango jam. Yes ! you read it right, and please do not roll your eyes; he can eat spicy hot red chilli flake bun with sweetest of jam.
Did I mention it before; that my elder one can go to any extent for experimenting, in the sense he can make so many food combos that are not conventional, yet most of the time these combos are hit with the people.
I made two batches of these and we enjoyed some with the Rajma ( red kidney beans) curry and some with choice of various fillings like jam, lightened up egg salad and warm potato salad over the weekend !

The whole way through your post, i mouthed one word and one word only… “wow”
Has anyone else actually tried to make these? The measurements are off somewhere, most likely the flour.
I mixed up a batch per the websites specifications and wound up with a soupy substance without enough flour. Added a LOT more flour than noted on here to get something that resembled a dough- like ~1 cup of each flour.
I am now waiting to see if these rise then try baking them. I will update when they are completed.
Just curious if anyone else ran into a problem with the measurements.
Ok So I just finished making these and them came out great once I added the right amount of flour. Again, I added about
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 to 1&1/4 cup white flour
You’ll know when you’ve reached the right amount by whether you have a dough or not.
