Bhuna Masala
8Basic masala paste which I generally use as a base for my day to day curries. I generally prepare this paste when I am cooking something else and I have time and use it later whenever I am pressed for time and still want to eat home cooked meal.
When you want to use it you can combine it with ginger or garlic or any other herb or flavour according to the dish you are using it in.
You can even double or triple the amount of ingredients and make 2-3 batches of bhuna masala to sail through a busy week. I always make my bhuna masala in big batch so that it lasts me for week or so. A great time saver.
Ingredients
- Onion 250g
- Vegetable Oil 2 tbsp
- Tomatoes 300 g
- Salt 2 tsp
- Red Chilli powder 2 tsp
- Turmeric 2 tsp
Instructions
- Grind onion and tomatoes into fine paste separately
- Pour cooking oil in the pan and add onion paste in to it.
- Leave it to simmer on the stove keep stirring in between when starts leaving the edge of the pan add pureed tomatoes to it and let the paste cook for 10-15 minutes more on slowest heat setting.
- Take it out of pan let it cool and store in refrigerator and use it later.
- Quantities mentioned here yield bhuna masala for my family of four.

US Masala
Do you use a blender or food processor to grind the onions and tomato, or do you just finely chop the ingredients?
